Mark Crowley is the founder of HomeRun Film Productions and HomeRun Film Development.  HomeRun Film Development was set up in 2001 to provide quality, commercial projects for production.   HomeRun is committed to maintaining its recognised position for the proper development of scripts to ensure that they reach their full potential.

 

Currently, Crowley is producing a stage musical for the West End of the film he originated, co-wrote and produced, Saving Grace, with music by KT Tunstall, directed by Laurence Connor.

 

In 1999, Mark produced the film Saving Grace, originating the idea and co-writing the script. Saving Grace has won numerous production awards including the World Cinema Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2000; the “High Hopes” Award at the Munich Film Festival; and the Audience Award at the Lake Placid Film Festival. It was sold to Fine Line for theatrical distribution in the United States and achieved the highest price paid for a film at Sundance 2000.  Saving Grace was the most successful independent film in 2000.

 

The film version of Saving Grace introduced the character of Doctor Martin Bamford, which in turn became the long running series Doc Martin.  Made for ITV starring Martin Clunes, Mark originated Doc Martin, the series, with Philippa Braithwaite, developing and executive producing 10 seasons and two specials of this program. The programs received ITV’s highest ratings for a new comedy drama for 10 years and was constantly the highest rating drama in UK TV. Doc Martin has received numerous awards and in 2007 won Best Comedy Drama at the British Comedy Awards. Distributed in over 200 countries, formatted versions have been made in France, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Greece and Russia, and now the United States on FOX.

 

In 2000, Mark produced the cult success Sorted starring Mathew Rhys, a feature film sold in all major territories. From 2001-2002, Mark developed and produced two TV movies for Sky Pictures: The Jellymaker and The Legend of the Cloutie.  Mark was nominated for the Carl Foreman Award at BAFTA in 2001.

 

Mark began his career as an actor (National Theatre 82-84, many plays in rep, plays for BBC & ITV, film with Carl Reiner), moving into production as the Founder Director of First Standard Media, which was formed to finance and produce The Mystery of Edwin Drood.  The film received a Royal Premiere in 1993. 

 

Between 1995 and 1999, Mark began developing material, including Saving Grace. He also developed and co-wrote Sophiatown with Mick Jagger’s Jagged Films.
