Kyla Pratt has remained a true representation and icon for millennials from her leading roles in Disney Channel's The Proud Family, to UPN’s One on One, to the iconic Dr. Dolittle Franchise. Kyla’s early work displayed outspoken, relatable characters that celebrate true feminism, coming-of-age stories, and Black culture. Her career and latest on-screen roles continue to serve as an inspiration and representation of empowerment for all generations.

 

Born and raised in Southern California, Kyla is an Award-winning actress, writer and producer in her long-standing career in Hollywood. She is best known for voicing the lead character ‘Penny Proud’ in Disney Channel’s animated series The Proud Family and as ‘Breanna Barnes’ in UPN’s One on One (currently available on Netflix). As well as her leading role of ‘Maya Dolittle’ in the Dr. Dolittle Franchise. Kyla has also appeared in several classic feature films, including Love & Basketball (2000), Fat Albert (2004), Hotel for Dogs (2009), and Lifetime’s holiday movie Let’s Meet Again on Christmas Eve (2020). Kyla has additionally had recurring roles in BET’s Let’s Stay Together, Freeform’s Recovery Road, Insecure, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and FOX’s comedy series Call Me Kat starring as series regular ‘Randi’, alongside Mayim Bialik. As well as reprising her infamous leading role of ‘Penny Proud’ for The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder revival series on Disney+ and stretching her comedy arms in the film Not Another Church Movie.

 

In 2024, Kyla Pratt starred in, and executive produced the short film The Memo, highlighting her versatility both on-screen and behind the scenes. At the beginning of 2025, Kyla Pratt competed as a celebrity recruit on FOX’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test Season Three, undertaking a rigorous five-week journey in Wales, the birthplace of British Special Forces selection. Throughout the season, she faced grueling mental, physical, and emotional challenges, testing her endurance, resilience, and determination. Kyla's philanthropic interests revolve around mental health for youth and black women’s maternal health. In her free time, she finds joy in cooking, reading, writing, staying active, and creating meaningful moments with her family.
