(Sundays, 8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT)
The longest-running scripted show in television history, THE SIMPSONS debuted over 20 years ago and immediately struck a chord with American viewers for irrepressibly and irreverently poking fun at everything and anything. Now THE SIMPSONS has become one of the most consistently groundbreaking and innovative entertainment franchises, recognizable throughout the world. With its subversive humor and delightful wit, the series – currently airing its 23rd season and approaching its historic milestone 500th episode next month on February 19 – has made an indelible imprint on American pop culture, and the family members, HOMER, MARGE, BART, LISA and MAGGIE, have become television icons.
THE SIMPSONS was nominated for three Emmys in 2011, including Outstanding Animated Program for “Angry Dad – The Movie.” It was nominated for five Emmys in 2010, including Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Nonfiction Special for “The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: In 3-D! On Ice!” produced and directed by Morgan Spurlock, and took home two awards, including one for guest voice Anne Hathaway for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance. The critically praised series has been bestowed with numerous honors, including a Peabody Award, 27 Emmy Awards, 26 Annie Awards, five Genesis Awards, nine International Monitor Awards and seven Environmental Media Awards. THE SIMPSONS holds the Guinness Book of World Records titles for Longest-Running Primetime Animated Television Series and Most Guest Stars Featured in a Television Series. Recognized as a pop culture icon, THE SIMPSONS has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was honored with five U.S. postal stamps designed by Matt Groening, and named the “Best Show of the 20th Century” by Time Magazine. The series has been the subject of a hit feature film; it has inspired “Krustyland,” a revolutionary virtual coaster – The Simpsons Ride – at Universal Studios; and “D’oh!” – Homer’s annoyed grunt – is an official word in the Oxford English Dictionary. With record-breaking retail sales, THE SIMPSONS reigns as one of the bestselling TV DVD properties of all time.
THE SIMPSONS serves up a feast of guest voices this spring, including Lady Gaga who, in the season finale, teaches Lisa to love herself; contemporary artist and graphic designer Shepard Fairey; Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”) who plays a fictional movie spy and teaches Homer to be a better husband; and Glenn Close reprising her role as MONA SIMPSON. Also, Lisa falls in love with actor/comedian Michael Cera (“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”) on Valentine’s Day; actor Jeremy Irons (“Die Hard with a Vengeance”) plays MOE’s (Hank Azaria) only friend, a bar rag; and actor Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) lends his voice to “The D’oh-cial Network.”
THE SIMPSONS is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television. James L. Brooks, Matt Groening and Al Jean are the executive producers. Film Roman, a Starz Media Company, is the animation house.
